React vs Respond:

So how do you deal with pain? What are you thinking about in regards to pain? These are the types of questions I want to discuss when talking about how you respond versus how you react.

It is important to realize that reacting and responding are two completely different concepts.

  1. Reacting = Negative Energy

When you are reacting, you are always at someone or something else power. So when you react, it’s always going to be impulsive, negatively driven, and protective in nature. So it’s going to come out with a different energetic value, making you nervous. This can raise doubts and cause problems in the future. This is never going to help you heal.

  1. Are You Reacting?

Focus on noticing if you’re reacting to your body…

For example, if you are rolling your ankle, you finally stop to realize it and decide you don’t want to do it anymore. This makes you takes the necessary steps to stop this behavior. Although you are being proactive in your approach, you are still hiding the negative nature of it, so it still won’t help you heal.

  1. See The Big Picture

If you start learning how to respond to something and are very clear in what you want to accomplish in your goals, you can start seeing the bigger picture. Responding is more deliberate and you are more aware of what’s going on. Consequently, you are able to find the resolution and the steps needed to solve the problem.

You start seeing that you rolled your ankle because your hip is not functioning correctly, so you can start working with the ankle as well as the calf and hip. This allows you to respond to everything.

Another great example is when you go to the doctor’s office. When the doctor puts you on medication and says you are reacting to it, that is a very negative thing. This means your body is trying to fight back. However, if your doctor says your body is responding to the medication, that sounds more positive. Normally, your doctor will say you are ‘responding nicely’ to the medication. This has a positive feeling to it. The word ‘responding’ has a positive energy value to it that is going to make things work, blossom, and open!

So you want to start learning how to respond versus react. Once you start responding to issues in your body, you’ll start seeing what you want to respond to in the future. No longer will you be forced to have an impulsive reaction. You’re starting to work with your body in such a way that you start to notice when you don’t feel right. You can start slowing down on your run a little bit, so your body can work through what it needs to do.

Stop reacting to things and start responding to your body, especially when it’s starting to give you pain. So if you have neck pain, don’t react just by doing trigger point work or stretches for your upper body. In actuality it might be coming from your lower back or many other different areas. Yet you won’t notice if you are hurrying to react to the pain and don’t stop to look at the bigger picture first. If you include that step, you’ll be able to see where the pain is coming from every single time.

First, realize that reacting to your pain is never going to help you heal. Reacting to things in a rush to fix whatever pain you may have will bring on a negative mindset and energy. You need to stop doing this and instead look at the bigger picture to see what else may be involved. This will help you find out what you need to respond to, allowing you to catch it every single time and help your body heal the appropriate way.
